Event Details

We're excited to announce the second in a series of barcamp-style events for the upcoming Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 OS! This time, we're taking it to San Francisco! Microsoft is again demonstrating its commitment to the developer community with their support of these independent, community-driven events.

So, WHAT is WinMoDevCamp? Glad you asked!

WinMoDevCamp is a series of upcoming not-for-profit gatherings to develop applications for the IMG_4050 upcoming release of the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 O/S. The event is currently being planned in several cities around the world. Our first Windows Mobile Developer Camp event was held on August 19 in Redmond, Washington at the Microsoft Campus. The event was a great success. We had just over 70 attendees at the event and hosted almost 3,000 unique streams on UStream.TV during the event.

We will hold the San Francisco event on October 2 - 4 in conjunction with Silicon Valley Code Camp. Dates are also being planned for the following cities:

  • San Diego (CTIA) October 6-7
  • New York October 10 - 11
  • London October 17 - 18
  • Los Angeles (Microsoft PDC) November 15 - 16
  • Hong Kong November 22 - 23

We are still working out the details for these cities and will confirm the dates as soon as possible.

We will also encourage other mobile developers to host their own events. We are scheduling a World-Wide WinMoDevCamp for the weekend of October 24 - 25, 2009. At the http://winmodevcamp.org website we will have facilities for local developers to organize and encourage anyone who whats to host a local event to contact us at winmodevcamp[@]gallucci[.]net so we can get you set up on the site. The event inspired by BarCamp, SuperHappyDevHouse, and MacHack, and the original iPhoneDevCamp to develop applications (local and web based) for mobile devices that run the Windows Mobile 6.5 Operating System.

IMG_4056 Attendees will include mobile developers, web developers, .Net Developers, UI designers, and testers, all working together. Development projects will include both solo and team efforts. While some attendees will wish to work solo during the event, we encourage attendees to team up, based on expertise, to work in ad-hoc project development teams. All attendees should be prepared to work on a development project during the event.

Attendees will be able to:

* Create new applications for the Windows Mobile Platform.
* Meet and work side-by-side with team members from the Microsoft Mobile Developer Experience team.
* Migrate existing mobile applications from the iPhone, Blackberry and Palm Pre to the Windows Mobile Platform.
* Create applications to support Windows Enterprise Applications.
* Test and optimize applications for Windows Mobile 6.5.

Many thanks to the Microsoft Mobile Developer Experience team for their support in making these events happen! I want to specifically thank Loke Uei, Senior Technical Project Manager on the Microsoft Mobile Developer Experience team for not hesitating in giving his full support to the community. Also, a hearty thanks to Chris Koenig, Microsoft Developer Evangelist, for hooking us up after that fateful tweet. The organizer of WinMoDevCamp is Giovanni Gallucci.
